New York, NY (PRWEB) February 21, 2012

Urban Green Energy (UGE), continues to expand and specialize its versatile product offering by announcing the launch of Fusion, a hybrid renewable energy solution designed specifically for telecom stations. The new Fusion system significantly lowers the operating costs at off-grid telecom sites and benefits the environment at the same time by reducing telecom tower dependency on diesel generators.

Launched through UGE’s specialized division, UGE Telecoms, Fusion is designed to integrate seamlessly into existing off-grid telecom stations, which currently run primarily on diesel generators. The complete Fusion system combines UGE’s advanced wind turbines, an array of solar panels, and an advanced control system, into a dependable, low-maintenance system which supplies free energy twenty-four hours a day.

Understanding the need for a dependable and cost-effective solution in the telecoms market, UGE’s Fusion is specifically designed to incorporate the same reliability of diesel generators at a fraction of the cost. As David Droz, Solution Manager for Fusion, stated, “By offsetting up to 90% of diesel usage per site, Fusion will allow our customers to significantly lower their operating costs and recoup their investment in as little as two years, while using a more robust and dependable system.”

Fusion also incorporates elements from UGE’s smart grid applications. This allows simultaneous control of various sources of energy and the ability to monitor and diagnose the system from a central location. Customers will be able to remotely monitor all aspects of their system, including battery charge, diesel consumption, load indicators, and, of course, energy production, through ViewUGE, UGE’s proprietary remote monitoring energy system.

The electronic systems supplied with Fusion are designed to allow for longer battery life and reduced use of back-up energy sources. Fusion is also modular, making it easily adaptable to the vast majority of telecoms stations.

UGE’s Fusion solution is currently being implemented at three of the world’s largest telecoms companies across three continents: Europe, the Americas, and Asia. It is also now powering remote communication towers for a national defense agency. The solution will be on exhibit at Urban Green Energy’s booth in The Green Technology Pavilion at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month.

Ecotourism is a useful concept, but not a very well defined one; it has been debated in theory and attempted in practice for nearly two decades. Its key goal is to reduce the net environmental impact of the tourism industry, via mechanisms including minimal impact management measures, education, community involvement, private conservation, contributions to public protected areas, expansion of ecotourism enterprises and mainstreaming of ecotourism principles.

Focusing on fundamental ecotourism concepts, this broad-based textbook provides a basis for studies into environment-based tourism. It covers key topics such as the management, economics and potential environmental impacts both positive and negative of this popular and growing sector.

Written for tourism students and an ideal resource for undergraduate courses, Ecotourism: Principles and Practices will also interest industry practitioners and researchers.

This digital document is a journal article from Ecological Economics, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
Over the past decade, an increasing number of authors have been examining the nexus of producer versus consumer responsibility, often dealing with the question of how to assign responsibility for internationally traded greenhouse gas emissions. Recently, a similar problem has appeared in drafting the standards for the Ecological Footprint: While the method traditionally assumes a full life-cycle perspective with full consumer responsibility, a large number of producers (businesses and industry sectors) have started to calculate their own footprints (see www.isa.org.usyd.edu.au). Adding any producer’s footprint to other producers’ footprints, or to population footprints, which all already cover the full upstream supply chain of their operating inputs, leads to double-counting: The sum of footprints of producers and consumers is larger than the total national footprint. The committee in charge of the Footprint standardisation process was hence faced with the decades-old non-additivity problem, posing the following dilemma for the accounting of footprints, or any other production factor: if one disallows double-counting, but wishes to be able to account for producers and consumers, then one cannot impose the requirement of full life-cycle coverage; the supply chains of actors have to be curtailed somehow in order to avoid double-counting. This work demonstrates and discusses a non-arbitrary method of consistently delineating these supply chains, into mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive portions of responsibility to be shared by all actors in an economy.

In this book Kerry Whiteside introduces the work of a range of French ecological theorists to an English-speaking audience. He shows how thinkers in France and in English-speaking countries have produced different strains of ecological thought and suggests that the work of French ecological theorists could lessen pervasive tensions in Anglophone ecology.Much of the theory written in English is shaped by the debate between anthropocentric ecologists, who contend that the value of our nonhuman surroundings derives from their role in fulfilling human interests, and ecocentric ecologists, who contend that the nonhuman world holds ultimate value in and of itself. This debate is almost nonexistent among French theorists, who tend to focus on the processes linking nature and human identity. Whiteside suggests that the insights of French theorists could help English-language theorists to extricate themselves from endless debates over the real center of nature’s value.Among the French theorists discussed are Denis de Rougemont, Denis Duclos, René Dumont, Luc Ferry, André Gorz, Félix Guattari, Bruno Latour, Alain Lipietz, Edgar Morin, Serge Moscovici, and Michel Serres. The English-language theorists discussed include John Barry, Robyn Eckersley, Robert Goodin, Tim Hayward, Holmes Rolston III, and Paul Taylor.

The term and meaning of a Resource-Based Economy was originated by Jacque Fresco. It is a holistic social and economic system in which all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, barter or any other system of debt or servitude. All resources become the common heritage of all of the inhabitants, not just a select few. The premise upon which this system is based is that the Earth is abundant with plentiful resource; our practice of rationing resources through monetary methods is irrelevant and counter productive to our survival. Modern society has access to highly advanced technology and can make available food, clothing, housing and medical care; update our educational system; and develop a limitless supply of renewable, non-contaminating energy. By supplying an efficiently designed economy, everyone can enjoy a very high standard of living with all of the amenities of a high technological society. A resource-based economy would utilize existing resources from the land and sea, physical equipment, industrial plants, etc. to enhance the lives of the total population. In an economy based on resources rather than money, we could easily produce all of the necessities of life and provide a high standard of living for all.

This short documentary provides a glimpse into an unusually important, and long-running research and demonstration project, called the Texas Coalition for Sustainable Integrated Systems Research (TeCSIS) and the Texas Alliance for Water Conservation (TAWC) that started with a grant from SARE to form TeCSIS. This combined project (TeCSIS/TAWC) involves scores of scientific researchers, educational institutions, government agencies, and local area farmers (producers) that are trying to find answers to extend the life of the aquifer, and promote more sustainable, economic viability for this invaluable agricultural region.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 03, 2012

A sustainable garden works in harmony with nature. These gardens are low-water, organic, chemical-free, and support environmental conservation.

“Sustainable gardens are the trend right now,” says CEO of Green Thumbs Up, Fanny Obadia. Trained in horticulture and landscape design and specializing in organic, low-water, sustainable gardens, she adds that most techniques are easy and can save homeowners both time and money.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Plant native plants and trees which need less care and energy and will be healthier than exotic species. Another benefit is that native birds, insects, and other wildlife will be able to use the fruits, nectar, and habitat these plants and trees provide.

2. Organic gardening is a great way to grow fruit and vegetables. This method allows homeowners to grow food without the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals that pollute the soil and water. An array of tools is available to bolster plant health and ward off pests, including using beneficial insects such as lady bugs, organic fertilizers, and compost to supply the soil with nutrients.

3. Mulching protects the soil by helping it retain water, control weeds, and insulate plants from extreme temperatures. Materials such as wood chips, nut shells, grass clippings, compost, sawdust, or leaves can be used as mulch. Mulching is a great way to recycle materials that might otherwise be discarded.

For those with a busy lifestyle who want an organic, sustainable garden but do not have the time or expertise, professionals are available to install and maintain an organic garden.

Green Thumbs Up, a licensed landscape contractor with a horticulture background, can help homeowners re-create an outdoor space, add new paths, or build raised beds for fruits and vegetables. They are a one-stop shop, providing landscape design, installation, and maintenance with experience in many design styles, including contemporary, modern, English, Japanese, as well as landscape designs for Eichler homes. This is a company that gives back to the community as well, including sharing profits with Heifer International, a non-profit world hunger organization.

“It’s very important to me to build good relationships with our clients” says Fanny, who has a hands-on approach from conception to completion and speaks English, Spanish, and French fluently. “I take the time to listen and ask relevant questions about their lifestyle and gardening needs. I like to meet all the family members and incorporate what they want in the yard.”
